My Story

Mary Shanley began publishing her poetry in 1984, at the behest of Allen Ginsberg and Lucien Carr. Mary’s first poems were published in Long Shot Literary and Arts Magazine, co-founded by Danny Shot, Eliot Katz and Allen Ginsberg. She has a long history with this publication and edited, with Danny Shot, Long Shot Volume 10, AIDS in America. Mary continues to publish in on-line and print journals.

 Mary Shanley wrote and performed, “The Renegade Priestess

of Soul,” at the Poetry Project in 1992.

Mary Shanley’s play, The Last Three Days of Timothy Leary’s Life, was performed in Genet Studio in 1997.

Mary Shanley appeared on Delphine Blue’s Radio Show, Shocking Blue on WBAI FM, where she was the featured Poet. She recited poems about the corrupt Government of George W. Bush and she analyzed the presence of the U.S. Military in Afghanistan and Iraq.

 

Mary Shanley was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2018.
